To cultivate world-class leaders equipped with quantitative, system-level, and integrative
thinking, capable of pioneering innovations in Engineering Biology and advancing national
progress through paradigm-shifting research and education.
Engineering Biology is an inherently broad and rapidly evolving discipline—its scope extends far beyond the boundaries of any single field. To truly understand and advance this area, it is essential to integrate multiple scientific and engineering domains into a unified, multidisciplinary approach to both research and education.
Recognizing this need, the Graduate School of Engineering Biology was established in 2023 as part of the College of Life Science and Bioengineering at KAIST — the first of its kind in the world. The school serves as an intellectual hub that connects diverse disciplines including biology, chemistry, chemical engineering, computer science, and robotics. Our mission is to achieve a comprehensive understanding of natural phenomena at the atomic and molecular levels and to apply this knowledge to engineer new biological systems that transcend current limitations.
Through this convergence-driven vision, the Graduate School of Engineering Biology seeks to reimagine how biology can be studied, engineered, and utilized — continuously providing new insights and opportunities across academia, industry, and the broader economy.
We invite you to explore our programs and join us in shaping the future of Engineering Biology. Your interest and participation are key to realizing the vast potential that lies ahead. Please feel free to contact us with any inquiries — we look forward to connecting with you.
