Plants produce a wide range of chemicals to defend themselves against herbivore attack. Plants also produce floral volatiles to attract insect pollinators. By utilizing advanced techniques in molecular biology and analytical chemistry, we aim to elucidate the biosynthetic pathways of these plant metabolites, the genes responsible for metabolite synthesis, and their ecological functions.
